Worte vorab...

Wer hätte das im Frühjahr gedacht, dass ich mit eurer Hilfe Ende Juli eine solche Reise machen darf? Ich jedenfalls nicht, bis ich Anfang Mai eine Mail der beauftragten Agentur der Störtebeker Festspiele im Postfach hatte. Ich dachte mir erst nichts dabei und googelte die Festspiele, die ich als Münchnerin tatsächlich bis dato noch nicht kannte. Auf Rügen war ich vorher ja auch noch nicht gewesen und mit der ersten Recherche war ich direkt angefixt. Ein Theaterstück, gespielt in einer Naturbühne, direkt an einer Bucht der Ostsee auf einer deutschen Insel, die ich schon immer einmal besuchen wollte? Mit Piraten, Schiffen und Feuerwerk? Aber klar doch! 

Ich war zwar erst noch etwas am Überlegen, da ich den Account nicht leichtfertig für Kooperationen nutzen wollte und ich euch immer aus voller Überzeugung meine Erlebnisse und Reisen durch das Mittelalter teilen möchte. Aber da ich selbst viel bei dieser Kooperation wählen konnte (z.B. wird dieser Blog für euch jetzt mit dem Update von den Störtebeker Festspielen unterstützt - ich danke daher an dieser Stelle ganz herzlich dafür!), die Geschichte um Klaus Störtebeker einfach auch zum hohen Norden gehört, das Stück im (Hoch-) Mittelalter spielt und es mit den Kostümen, Schauspielern, Bühnenbildnern und dem gesamten Ambiente voll zu mir passt, habe ich letztlich doch recht schnell zugesagt.

Who would have thought in the spring that with your help I would be able to go on such a trip at the end of July? At least I didn't until I received an email from the agency responsible for the Störtebeker Festival in my inbox at the beginning of May. At first I didn't think anything of it and googled the festival, which as a Munich resident I actually didn't know about. I hadn't been to Rügen before and with my initial research I was immediately hooked. A play performed in a natural stage, directly on a bay in the Baltic Sea on a German island that I have always wanted to visit? With pirates, ships and fireworks? But of course!

I was still thinking about it a bit because I didn't want to use the account for collaborations carelessly and I always want to share my experiences and travels through the Middle Ages with you with full conviction. But since I was able to choose a lot in this cooperation (e.g. this blog is now supported for you with the update by the Störtebeker Festival - I would therefore like to thank you very much for that!), the story about Klaus Störtebeker simply belongs to the far north , the play takes place in the (high) Middle Ages and it suits me perfectly with the costumes, actors, set designers and the entire ambience, so I ultimately agreed quite quickly.

Die Reise - Anfahrt, Blick hinter die Kulissen und die Festspiele selbst

Auch wenn es für mich vollkommen in Ordnung gewesen wäre, allein dorthin zu fahren, so haben mich die Festspiele nicht allein eingeladen, sondern auch eine zweite Person, die mich begleiten durfte. Das fand ich wirklich super schön und ich hätte natürlich sofort @solvar.steinmoorson mitgenommen. Leider war er beruflich verhindert und so fragte ich spontan @laradianaheiden, die mir am Ostermarkt in Haithabu mit ihrem Kleid ausgeholfen hat, das jetzt irgendwie auch zu meinem "Signature" geworden ist. Da für mich die Anreise nach Rügen mit 900km einfach eine sehr lange Reise ist (bin ja aus München), habe ich ein paar mehr Tage hinzu genommen und mit ihr noch andere Orte besucht. Zuvor waren wir erneut in Haithabu, nach den Festspielen in Wolin (Einträge folgen). Auslöser für diese erneute Reise in den Norden waren aber eben die Festspiele.

Lara und ich sind am 29. Juli auf Rügen angekommen und haben dort in Sellin unser Hotel bezogen. Wir waren wirklich beeindruckt von der Aussicht über die Insel und haben direkt den Strand unsicher gemacht. Ich war damit auch das 1. Mal in meinem Leben in der Ostsee schwimmen (Beine im Wasser im Herbst 2023 gilt ja irgendwie nicht richtig, oder?). Auf dem Rückweg vom Strand habe ich dann unsere Gastgeschenke ausgepackt und auch die zu verlosenden Karten gesehen. Diese wurden dann auch direkt von mir auf Instagram verlost - gewonnen hat Jonas, der noch in dieser Saison mit seiner Oma zu den Festspielen fahren wird. Herzlichen Glückwunsch nochmals an dieser Stelle! 

The journey - how to get there, a look behind the scenes and the festival itself

Even though it would have been perfectly fine for me to go there alone, the festival not only invited me, but also a second person who was allowed to accompany me. I thought that was really nice and of course I would have taken @solvar.steinmoorson with me straight away. Unfortunately he was unable to attend at work and so I spontaneously asked @laradianaheiden, who helped me out at the Easter market in Haithabu with her dress, which has now somehow become my "signature". Since the journey to Rügen is a very long journey of 900km for me (I'm from Munich), I added a few more days and visited other places with her. Previously we were in Haithabu again, after the festival in Wolin (entries to follow). But - the trigger for this new trip to the north was the festival.

Lara and I arrived on Rügen on July 29th and moved into our hotel in Sellin. We were really impressed by the view over the island and went straight to the beach. It was also the first time in my life that I went swimming in the Baltic Sea (legs in the water in the fall of 2023 doesn't really apply, does it?). On the way back from the beach I unpacked our gifts and also saw the cards that were to be raffled off. These were then raffled off directly by me on Instagram - the winner was Jonas, who will be going to the festival with his grandma this season. Congratulations again at this point!

Der eigentliche Besuchstag startete für uns mit einem Abstecher zu Piratenschlucht - ganz im Sinne unserer Reise. Wir hatten uns dafür in unsere Gewandungen gekleidet und haben für euch ein paar Bilder geschossen. Das wird auch meine nächste Serie auf Instagram werden. Wir blieben eine Weile an dieser schönen Bucht, suchten erfolgreich nach einem Hühnergott und machten uns dann am späten Nachmittag auf Richtung Ralswiek.

The actual day of our visit started with a detour to Pirate Gorge - completely in keeping with our trip. We dressed up in our garments and took a few pictures for you. This will also be my next series on Instagram. We stayed at this beautiful bay for a while, successfully searching for a chicken god and then set off towards Ralswiek in the late afternoon.

Auf dem Gelände angekommen suchten wir erst einmal einen Parkplatz - für die Festspiele gibt es zwei kostenfreie (grün und rot) Parkplätze, die auch gut via Google zu finden sind. Fahrt allerdings nicht wie wir auf das Schloss zu - das ist zwar auch sehr sehenswert, allerdings kommt ihr so nicht zum oberen/roten Parkplatz. Ihr müsst am Festgelände links abbiegen und der Straße folgen ;) Was ich euch auch raten würde: Sucht einen Parkplatz relativ nahe an der Einfahrt - ihr werdet es mir beim Ende der Show danken ;) Durch den Wald gibt es einen sehr kurzen Weg zurück zum Gelände, wo ihr direkt bei der Festwiese heraus kommt. Dort könnt ihr euch mit allerlei Getränken, Essen und Süßem für die Show stärken. Ich rate euch auch hier: Ab 17:30Uhr wird es sehr voll, da dann nach und nach die Fährschiffe und Busse ankommen. Wenn ihr ohnehin - wie wir - die Flugshow ab 18.00Uhr sehen möchtet, dann ist ein Ankommen um 17:00Uhr perfekt getimt. Solltet ihr wie ich Merch kaufen wollen, gibt es nicht nur an der Festwiese Gelegenheiten Souvenirs mitzunehmen, sondern auch auf dem Gelände der Festspiele. Hier könnt ihr, im Gegensatz zur Festwiese, auch wieder mit Karte bezahlen. Und falls ihr euch genau wie ich fragt, warum gerade Nissan hier so viel Werbung für sich macht und auch ein Auto ausgestellt hat - das war damals zum Beginn der Festspiele ab 1993 der größte Sponsor. Ohne die Beteiligung damals wären die Festspiele heute vermutlich nicht das, was sie heute sind. All diese Tipps und die Geschichte dahinter haben wir von Anna erfahren.

Once we arrived at the site, we first looked for a parking space - there are two free parking spaces (green and red) for the festival, which can also be easily found via Google. However, don't drive towards the castle like we did - it's also worth seeing, but you won't get to the upper/red parking lot. You have to turn left at the festival site and follow the road ;) What I would also advise you: Find a parking space relatively close to the entrance - you will thank me at the end of the show ;) There is a very short way back through the forest Area where you come out directly at the festival meadow. There you can fortify yourself for the show with all kinds of drinks, food and sweets. I would also advise you here: it gets very crowded from 5:30 p.m. onwards, as the ferries and buses gradually arrive. If you - like us - want to see the air show from 6 p.m., then arriving at 5 p.m. is perfectly timed. If, like me, you want to buy merch, there are opportunities to pick up souvenirs not only on the festival meadow, but also on the festival grounds. Here, in contrast to the festival meadow, you can also pay by card again. And if, like me, you're wondering why Nissan is doing so much advertising here and has a car on display - it was the biggest sponsor at the start of the festival in 1993. Without the participation back then, the festival would probably not be what it is today. We learned all of these tips and the story behind them from Anna.

Von 18:00Uhr bis ca. 18:40Uhr sahen Lara und ich uns die Flugshow der Familie Walter an, die wie ich aus Bayern sind. Sie halten die Vögel privat und kennen sich wirklich extrem gut aus über jeden ihrer Schützlinge. Sie sind seit Jahren fester Bestandteil der Festspiele. In deren Show geht es nicht nur um die Geschichte der Falknerei und die Verbindung zu Klaus Störtebeker, sondern auch um die Besonderheiten der Haltung und der Bedürfnisse jedes einzelnen ihrer Tiere. Das merkt man dann zum Beispiel auch in der Änderung der Vorführung, als ein Falke nicht auf Futter, sondern auf den Jagdtrieb anspielte. Herr und Frau Walter tragen beide Mikros, was es uns auch ermöglicht hat, die Reaktion der Tiere noch besser zu verfolgen. Ich kann es gar nicht richtig beschreiben, aber man merkte durch die gesamte Körpersprache aller Beteiligten, dass hier eine tiefe Verbindung da ist. So hat Frau Walter den kleinen Falken am Ende der Jagdspielerei vom Boden hochgenommen und dieser hat sie fröhlich angezwitschert. Und was den eigenen Willen angeht, haben wir auch einen guten Eindruck erhalten: Der majestätische Weißkopfseeadler saß nach einem Überflug über unseren Köpfen hinweg seelenruhig auf einer der Balustraden und fand halt eben einige Minuten etwas anderes spannend. Irgendwann fingen wir an zu lachen, weil Herr Walter währenddessen die Zeit überbrückte, uns über die Arbeit mit den Tieren aufzuklären. Irgendwann entschied sich der Adler dann aber doch die weiten Schwingen zu öffnen und zu seinem Herrn zurück auf die Bühne zu fliegen. Nach der Show haben wir die Beiden hinter der Bühne getroffen und ich hatte mit ihm selbst nochmal ein Gespräch. Er hat noch einen weiteren, älteren Adler, der es auch schon einmal gebracht hat, ohne jede Aufforderung in die Ostsee einzutauchen und Live einen Fisch zu fangen, den er dann gemütlich im Publikum verspeist hat. Unter Zwang, Aushungern oder ähnlichen tierunwürdigen Praktiken würde ein solches Zusammenarbeiten gar nicht funktionieren. Die Tiere würden bei der ersten Gelegenheit davonfliegen. So seid euch also sicher - hier wird mit viel Liebe, sehr guter Ausbildung der Falkner und bewusstem Umgang gearbeitet und ich kann euch die Show nur sehr an Herz legen.

From 6:00 p.m. to around 6:40 p.m. Lara and I watched the air show of the Walter family, who like me are from Bavaria. They keep the birds private and are extremely knowledgeable about each of their charges. They have been an integral part of the festival for years. Their show is not only about the history of falconry and the connection to Klaus Störtebeker, but also about the peculiarities of keeping and the needs of each of their animals. You can notice this, for example, in the change in the performance when a falcon did not allude to food but to the hunting instinct. Mr. and Mrs. Walter both wear microphones, which also enabled us to follow the animals' reactions even better. I can't really describe it, but you could tell by the entire body language of everyone involved that there is a deep connection here. At the end of the hunting game, Ms. Walter picked up the little falcon from the ground and it chirped happily at her. And as far as our own will is concerned, we also got a good impression: the majestic bald eagle sat calmly on one of the balustrades after flying over our heads and just found something else exciting for a few minutes. At some point we started laughing because Mr. Walter was passing the time to tell us about working with the animals. At some point the eagle decided to open its wide wings and fly back to its master on the stage. After the show we met them both backstage and I had another conversation with him. He has another, older eagle who has once managed to dive into the Baltic Sea without any invitation and catch a fish live, which he then comfortably ate in the audience. Such cooperation would not work under coercion, starvation or similar practices that are unworthy of animals. The animals would fly away at the first opportunity. So be sure - the work here is done with a lot of love, very good training of the falconers and conscious handling and I can only recommend the show to you very much.

Direkt nach der Show wurden wir von Anna-Theresa Hick (@piratentochter) abgeholt, der Chefin der Festspiele. Ihre Eltern haben damals mit den Festspielen der Naturbühne neues Leben eingehaucht und somit konnte sie unglaublich viel Geschichte zum Ort erzählen, wie z.B. das mit Nissan und dass die Bühne vor langer Zeit bewusst an diesem Ort gebaut wurde. So liegt die Naturbühne direkt an der Bucht in Ralswiek zur Ostsee, das Schloss und die untergehende Sonne im Rücken. Das Licht stand gegen 19:00Uhr schon tief und tauchte alles schon in einen warmen Ton. Mich hat dann in diesem Licht die Fassade des Bühnenbilds sehr fasziniert, da ich mit meiner Bautechnik-Ausbildung ein besonderes Auge auf die Darstellung der Stadt Hamburg geworfen habe. Es sah so täuschend echt aus, allein die Liebe fürs Detail war bei einer so großen Leinwand wirklich beeindruckend. Wer genau hinsieht erkennt, dass sogar die Verschmutzung durch die Eisenstangen aufgemalt wurde, ganz zu schweigen von den goldenen Statuen und der Inspiration durch das Rathaus in Hamburg selbst. Natürlich bleib es eine Interpretation, auch da aus der Zeit 1401 nicht mehr wirklich viel übrig ist. Lara als Hamburgerin allerdings hat sofort weitere Details erkannt und wir waren geschockt zu hören, dass das Bühnenbild jedes Jahr neu gefertigt wird - und dieses hier Anfang September abgebaut wird. Eine irre Leistung und ehrlich - schon etwas schade drum, findet ihr nicht?

Immediately after the show we were picked up by Anna-Theresa Hick (@piratentochter), the head of the festival. Her parents breathed new life into the natural stage with the festival and so she was able to tell an incredible amount of history about the place, such as the story about Nissan and the fact that the stage was deliberately built at this location a long time ago. The natural stage is located directly on the bay in Ralswiek facing the Baltic Sea, with the castle and the setting sun behind it. The light was already low around 7 p.m. and bathed everything in a warm tone. In this light, I was very fascinated by the facade of the stage design because, with my training in structural engineering, I paid particular attention to the representation of the city of Hamburg. It looked so deceptively real, the attention to detail alone was truly impressive on such a large canvas. If you look closely you can see that even the pollution from the iron bars was painted on, not to mention the golden statues and the inspiration from the town hall in Hamburg itself. Of course it remains an interpretation, even since there isn't really much left from the time of 1401 . However, Lara, as a Hamburg resident, immediately recognized further details and we were shocked to hear that the stage set is remade every year - and this one will be dismantled at the beginning of September. A crazy achievement and honestly - it's a bit of a shame to put this beauty down, don't you think?

Wir durften dann hinter die Bühne sehen und zuerst in die Kommandozentrale: Von dort erhalten die Schauspieler eine interne Durchsage, wie viel Zeit noch bis zum Beginn der Vorstellung bleibt, wer sich wann im Stück wo aufzuhalten hat und welche Sequenz gerade abzulaufen hat. Hinter der Zentrale stießen wir dann direkt auf die ersten Schauspieler und einen kleinen Stall neben der Bühne, in der die Pferde während der Show auf ihren individuellen Einsatz warten. Dort standen auch die Kutschen für das Stück und auch die Falknerei hat auf der linken Seite des Grundstückes ihren Platz. Zu Dritt liefen wir dann einen geteerten Weg durch ein kleines Waldstück weg von der Bühne einen Hügel hinauf und um einen Bogen auf die eigentlichen Stallungen zu. Das Areal macht dort neben der Bucht noch einmal auf und gibt einen Blick auf weite Koppeln und ein großes Stallgebäude mit den Wohnungen der Schauspieler darüber frei. Direkt vor den Toren standen schon zwei große, sehr hübsche und gutmütige Kaltblüter im Geschirr, die später die Kutsche von Simon von Utrecht ziehen würden. Bernd, einer der Kaltblüter, war dabei besonders verschmust und ich habe das erste Mal seit Jahren wieder ein Pferd streicheln dürfen (ich bin früher selbst jahrelang geritten). Dabei wurde ich auch gewarnt, weil er super gerne seinen schweren Kopf beim Schmusen ablegt :) Im Stall selbst wurden die letzten Pferde fertig gemacht und auch den neuen Star der Show, einen sehr jungen Friesen, durften wir von Nahem bewundern. Auch hier nochmal: Die Pferde arbeiten nur die 11 Wochen im Jahr und haben den Rest der Zeit "frei".  Sie werden ganz knapp vor der Show fertig gemacht und professionell von geschultem Personal umsorgt.  Die Bilder hier entstanden ca. um 19:30 Uhr.

We were then allowed to look backstage and first into the command center: From there, the actors receive an internal announcement about how much time is left until the start of the performance, who has to be where in the play, when, and what sequence is currently taking place. Behind the headquarters we came across the first actors and a small stable next to the stage where the horses wait for their individual performance during the show. The carriages for the piece were also located there and the falconry is also located on the left side of the property. The three of us then walked along a tarred path through a small forest away from the stage, up a hill and around a curve towards the actual stables. The area opens up again next to the bay and offers a view of wide paddocks and a large stable building with the actors' apartments above. Right in front of the gates there were already two large, very pretty and good-natured cold-blooded horses in harness that would later pull Simon of Utrecht's carriage. Bernd, one of the cold-blooded horses, was particularly cuddly and I was able to pet a horse for the first time in years (I used to ride horses myself for years). I was also warned because he really likes to lay down his heavy head while cuddling :) The last horses were getting ready in the stable itself and we were also able to admire the new star of the show, a very young Friesian, up close. Here again: The horses only work 11 weeks a year and have the rest of the time "free". They will be ready just before the show and professionally looked after by trained staff. The pictures here were taken around 7:30 p.m.

Wir liefen zurück Richtung Bühne und sahen die Kulisse mal von der anderen Seite, mitunter das Fahrwerk für den Aufbau der Insel Helgoland. Das Fahrwerk ist dabei noch ein Relikt aus den ganz frühen Zeiten der Festspiele. Anna zeigte uns dann auch am Aufbau der Mühle die besondere Beschichtung für die späteren Effekte. Falls ihr euch fragt, warum die Mühle zwar brennen kann aber nicht abbrennt ;) In diesem Zuge erzählte sie uns auch über die weiteren Professionen am Set: Wusstet ihr, dass viele der Stuntreiter aus Ungarn kommen und in Produktionen wie z.B. Game of Thrones mitwirken? Viele dieser Filme werden in Ungarn gedreht - für mich auch cool zu wissen! Hier sind einige Spezialisten beteiligt, die die Darstellung auf der Bühne mit ihrem Wissen nochmal auf ein ganz anderes Level heben. Solltet ihr die Festspiele also selbst einmal Live sehen, so habt ihr jetzt vielleicht nochmal ein besonderes Auge für diese Details.

We walked back towards the stage and saw the scenery from the other side, including the undercarriage for the construction of the island of Helgoland. The chassis is a relic from the very early days of the festival. Anna then showed us the special coating for the later effects on the structure of the mill. In case you're wondering why the mill can burn but doesn't burn down ;) At the same time, she also told us about the other professions on the set: Did you know that many of the stunt riders come from Hungary and take part in productions such as Game of Thrones? Many of these films are shot in Hungary - which is also cool for me to know! There are a number of specialists involved here who use their knowledge to take the performance on stage to a completely different level. So if you see the festival live yourself, you might now have a special eye for these details.

Die Bühne im gesamten Aufbau auch von hinter der Kulisse zu sehen, hat mir ebenfalls sehr gefallen. Das Ende des Stücks - das ich euch hier natürlich nicht im Detail verraten werde ;) - hat mich ehrlich richtig geschockt, weil es extrem gut gemacht war! Lara und ich haben, trotz unseres Wissens um die Falltür mit weichen Kissen darunter, ewig überlegen müssen, wie der "Zaubertrick" funktioniert haben könnte. Falls also jemand fallen sollte in dem Stück - es gibt eine Ausbuchtung im Boden, die mit einem geheimen Gang von der linken zur rechten Seite der Bühne verbunden ist. Diesen Geheimgang liefen Anna, Lara und ich entlang und kamen "hinter Hamburg" heraus. Dort trafen wir, 15 Minuten vor Spielstart, die ersten Schauspieler, wie die bezaubernde Karin, die im Stück Amrei spielt. Sofort wurden wir lieb begrüßt und Lara für ihren Wikingerschmuck bewundert (was ich mir in Zukunft für meine "zivile Darstellung" abschauen werde :D). Wir durften noch einen kurzen Blick in die Waffenkammer werfen, wo mich Valentin, der Keno tom Brok spielt, direkt herausgefordert hat, nachdem mir Viktor (Ratsherr Witte) sein Schwert geliehen hatte. Dieses Gefühl, in genau der richtigen Gruppe (bzw. wie in einer Familie) zu sein, habe ich so sonst nur auf den Märkten erlebt. Man kommt an, kennt sich überhaupt nicht und hat trotzdem einen Draht zueinander. Vor allem das Miteinander hinter der Bühne war zwischen allen Darstellern so schön anzusehen - ich wäre nur zu gerne noch länger geblieben! Kurz vor dem Start wurden die Schwerter in einer professionellen letzten Probe gekreuzt, während wir durch die Wartebereich der Schauspieler wieder zurück auf das eigentliche Gelände liefen. Dort hat uns Anna sehr lieb verabschiedet, bei der ich mich persönlich an dieser Stelle nochmal ganz herzlich bedanken möchte. Es war mir ein absolutes Fest, euer Gast sein zu dürfen und habe die tolle, authentische Führung durch eure Festspiele sehr genossen! Ich komme wirklich sehr gerne wieder!

I also really enjoyed seeing the stage in its entirety from behind the scenes. The end of the piece - which of course I won't tell you in detail here ;) - honestly shocked me because it was extremely well done! Despite our knowledge of the trap door with soft cushions underneath, Lara and I had to spend ages thinking about how the "magic trick" could have worked. So if someone were to fall in the play - there is a bulge in the floor that connects to a secret passage from the left to the right side of the stage. Anna, Lara and I walked along this secret passage and came out "behind Hamburg". There, 15 minutes before the start of the game, we met the first actors, like the enchanting Karin, who plays Amrei in the play. We were immediately greeted warmly and Lara was admired for her Viking jewelry (which I will copy for my "civilian representation" in the future :D). We were allowed to take a quick look into the armory, where Valentin, who plays Keno tom Brok, challenged me straight after Viktor (Councilman Witte) lent me his sword. This feeling of being in exactly the right group (or like a family) is something I have only ever experienced at the markets. You arrive, you don't know each other at all and you still have a connection with each other. Above all, the togetherness backstage between all the actors was so nice to see - I would have loved to stay longer! Shortly before the start, the swords were crossed in a professional final rehearsal while we walked through the actors' waiting area back to the actual site. There Anna said goodbye to us very kindly, and I would like to personally thank her very much again. It was an absolute pleasure to be your guest and I really enjoyed the great, authentic tour of your festival! I really enjoy coming back!

Um Punkt 20:00Uhr schafften es Lara und ich gerade rechtzeitig auf unsere Plätze zurück und wir konnten mit all dem Hintergrundwissen nochmal besonders in dieses Festspiel eintauchen. Es waren überraschend viele Nebenszenen eingebracht, die ich echt witzig fand und bei denen man ebenfalls nicht auf liebevolle Details verzichtet hat. Man kam teilweise aus dem Schauen und Staunen nicht mehr heraus. Dabei gefiel Lara und mir besonders die Darstellung von Fridtjof - was eine schauspielerische Leistung, wir hatten noch Tage danach einen Ohrwurm von "Salzhering!" :D Das Stück hat eine kurze Pause, die es euch ermöglicht, euch nochmals mit Essen und Getränken zu versorgen, bevor es mit dem Ende dieses Zyklus in das Finale um Klaus Störtebeker geht, das mit mehreren Gesangseinlagen von Wolfgang Lippert und einem Wahnsinns-Feuerwerk zum Schluss abgerundet wird.  

At 8:00 p.m. sharp, Lara and I made it back to our seats just in time and with all the background knowledge we were able to immerse ourselves in this festival again. There were a surprising number of secondary scenes that I found really funny and that didn't miss out on loving details. Sometimes you couldn't stop looking and being amazed. Lara and I particularly liked the portrayal of Fridtjof - what an acting achievement, we had a catchy tune of "Salzhering!" for days afterwards. :D The piece has a short break that allows you to get some more food and drinks before the end of this cycle and the finale about Klaus Störtebeker, which features several vocal performances by Wolfgang Lippert and an amazing fireworks display is rounded off at the end.

Für uns ging es an dem Abend zurück nach Sellin in unser Hotel, das wir am nächsten Tag erst bis Mittags verlassen mussten. Wir haben den Vormittag nochmals für einen kurzen Sprung in die Ostsee genutzt und den Strand genossen, bevor für uns die Reise weiter Richtung Wolin ging. 

That evening we went back to Sellin to our hotel, which we didn't have to leave until midday the next day. We used the morning again for a short jump into the Baltic Sea and enjoyed the beach before we continued our journey towards Wolin.

Fazit:

Ja, was soll ich sagen? Allein diesen Blogeintrag nachträglich zu schreiben war für mich eine riesige Freude, da ich all die tollen Bilder, Erinnerungen und Eindrücke nochmal durchleben durfte. Ich bin bis heute immer noch hin und weg über die Möglichkeit, die mir die Festspiele eröffnet haben und dass ich mit dem simplen Teilen meines Hobbys eine solche Einladung erhalten habe. Es war mir wirklich eine große Ehre! Ich habe diese Saison von Anfang an auf Instagram verfolgt und bin wahnsinnig gespannt auf nächstes Jahr: Wer spielt mit? Wie fing die ganze Geschichte an? Wie sieht das Bühnenbild aus? Und wird Fridtjof wieder Hering verkaufen, wenn die "Freibeuter der Meere" erneut Segel setzen??

Lara und ich sind uns jedenfalls einig - nächstes Jahr Rügen ist auf jeden Fall in Planung! Ich werde das im Sommer dann erneut mit einer Rundreise verbinden und dann etwas länger im Norden bleiben. Es würde daher die Störtebeker Festspiele und mich sehr freuen, wenn ihr uns auf Instagram folgt, um dahingehend nichts zu verpassen, wenn es wieder heißt:

"Gottes Freund und aller Welt Feind!"

Conclusion:

Yes, what can I say? Just writing this blog entry afterwards was a huge joy for me because I was able to relive all the great pictures, memories and impressions. To this day, I am still blown away by the opportunity that the festival opened up for me and that I received such an invitation simply by sharing my hobby. It was really a great honor! I've been following this season from the beginning on Instagram and I'm incredibly excited about next year: Who's playing? How did the whole story begin? What does the stage look like? And will Fridtjof sell herring again when the "buccaneers of the seas" set sail again??

In any case, Lara and I agree - Rügen is definitely on the cards next year! I'll combine this with a round trip again in the summer and then stay a little longer in the north.
